Available configurations
We choose the door configuration according to the clinic's workflow, the available space and the shielding requirement.
All variants can be configured with a shielded frame and can be integrated into existing or new walls.
Motorized Sliding Door
The standard solution for LINAC bunkers with a maze. A heavy leaf on a suspended rail and a floor guide, with motorized operation due to its mass.
Suitable for: most radiotherapy bunkers.
Armored Pivot Door
A pivot variant, recommended when the lateral path for sliding is not feasible or the sliding space is limited.
Suitable for: bunkers with atypical geometry, confined spaces.
Direct-Access Door
Maximum shielding (steel + lead + borated polyethylene) for bunkers without a maze, where the door bears the full radiation load. The most massive configuration.
Suitable for: spaces where a maze does not fit.
Construction and materials
A bunker door is not an ordinary lead-lined door, but a structural barrier weighing several tons, sized to attenuate high-energy radiation across the entire opening and along the perimeter.
Composite shielding (Pb + steel + BPE):
- A steel structure with lead layers for the attenuation of high-energy X/gamma radiation; the thicknesses are determined by the radiation protection calculation (NCRP 151 / IAEA SRS-47).
- Borated polyethylene (BPE): for accelerators above 10 MV, which generate photoneutrons, we integrate BPE into the door leaf to absorb the neutrons.
Mass and operation:
- The door leaf can reach several tons, which is why it is motorized, with the rail and foundation sized accordingly.
- Operation with slow, controlled opening and closing, with buttons on the inside and outside; in the event of a power failure, manual opening or opening via an emergency battery.
Guaranteed shielding continuity. The door leaf overlaps the concrete wall (intersection shielding), and the threshold is treated so that there is no direct radiation path along the perimeter of the door - the frequent problem with improvised installations.
